Katy Rivers' life has been perfect so far. Perfectly boring, that is. She's lived by the rules and made all the safe choices. She has a great accounting job, her own home, and…zero fun. She's looking for a taste of excitement, but she gets more than she bargained for when the sexy, but off-limits bad boy she dreamt about in high school is suddenly back in her life and wanting more than her number.
Scott Beckstead has grown up during the ten years since he dropped out of school. He's no longer the bad boy the town remembers. He owns a profitable construction company and keeps his wild adventures just this side of legal. A chance meeting with Katy reminds him of the one thing he always wanted, but never thought he could have.
The holidays are a time to come together, but Katy's family and friends are determined to keep her and Scott apart. If she wants Scott to stay and wants the passionate nights by the Christmas tree to become a tradition, she's going to have to leave "safe" behind.

I really enjoyed this story, it was a short and sweet story about embracing life and finding new people to love along the way. The main characters Scott and Katy had no deep dark secrets to tear each other apart and the biggest issues they had was the jealousy of Katy's best friend and her mother's inability to see past Scott's high school reputation. But even these issues weren't really that big and were resolved really easily which made this an easy and fun book with no angst! The only problem I had with this novel was that Scott apparently had the "player" reputation in high school and didn't take studying seriously so dropped out of school, but since then had moved on to become a respected construction worker and even owned his own company at the age of 26 but it seems no one in their little town can move past that he's the "bad boy". I really just did not see it at all, I kept waiting for something really bad to be revealed but nothing.....and then Katy's best friend and mother both react really badly to her dating Scott and I waited for something really bad to be revealed about him.....but nothing! Scott didn't seem to do anything to actually earn such a bad reputation, especially not one that haunted him like this one seemed too. Didn't make any sense to me!
Having said that I could get past this as it was a cute story and it was good to read to have two characters know they have something special and want to embrace that :)
I did read some of the comments that referred to this book as pornography however I wouldn't go that far! It shows a relationship that is developing between two characters that are committed to each other and yes sex is apart of that (and apparently good sex too!) so if you don't want to read anything like that then don't get this book.

Cowboys and Angels Aspen Series Book 3 edition by Cindy Stark Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I got this as a freebee and I based on that I gave it 4 stars. If I had to pay 2.99 for it I'm not sure if I would rate so high.
***Spoilers***
First of all, where is the Cowboy in this story? The H owns a construction company and was a bad boy in high school. No mention of Cowboy hats or boots, of cattle or ranches, etc. This doesn't bother me but those looking specifically for cowboy romance will be disappointed. I wonder if the author is trying to cash in on the popular country song.
Secondly, it is short. Maybe a novella? I have a problem paying more than .99 for those.
Thirdly, while I liked both main characters, the secondary characters annoyed me. The h's best friend and mother in particular said and did things that I find hard to believe would happen in real life.
Finally, and maybe because the story was short, I think everything wrapped up way to quickly. He proposed within about 3 weeks of meeting her? She has all of these life changing circumstances yet fairly easily resolves her life when she spent 25 years being sheltered and playing it safe, not to mention her mother and best friend are dead set against the man? I think if the story was longer and spent more time on the conflicts, I would find it more believable.
I have other books by this author and I like her work and it is not that I didn't like the book because I did, but as I said, I'm not sure I would have appreciated paying for it.
1-Scott had his own construction company. I didn't read anything to give a hint that he was a cowboy. Maybe it was that he had a ranch house.
2-he was described as having a goatee. That sort of detracted from his overall looks for me. I mean a well built cowboy/contractor with a goatee, I just couldn't picture it in my head. I kept getting signals "this does not compute".
3-Not one angel in the whole story. Except for Katy whose pet name by Scott was Angel.
4-the book told that Katy was shy and very smart. She seemed intelligent as having gotten an high upgrade at her employment due to her performance, but shy? (i didn't see it.) Even though Scott wanted to treat her like a lady, to make a good impression (he was so sweet) on their first date, Katy had other plans and Scott didn't have a chance. She had him cornered and didn't give up.
Overall, the book was a good read. I totally cheered when Katy let everybody know that she was making her own decisions about her life, and no longer was she buckling to what others said. Especially when her boss said that her temporary promotion would not be continued unless she made a change to her personal relationship. She said (more or less) what she did after work on her own time should not come into play as to whether her promotion was made permanent. Therefore, she would return to her lower position in the company. That part was great! Also, she straightemed out her mother, and her best friend since childhood on the change to her life of making her own decisions from now on. No longer being told what to do by others.
Scott, was a real sweetie whether he had a goatee or not. He worshiped Katy and as I said before Katy was not shy about letting him know how she felt.
